Sundays and Holy Days

Fifth Sunday of Easter

Sunday, 18 May, 2025

Collect for the day

Risen Christ,
your wounds declare your love for the world
and the wonder of your risen life:
give us compassion and courage
to risk ourselves for those we serve,
to the glory of God the Father.
Amen.

Or this:

Almighty God,
who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ
have overcome death and opened to us
    the gate of everlasting life:
grant that, as by your grace going before us
you put into our minds good desires,
so by your continual help
we may bring them to good effect;
through Jesus Christ our risen Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

Sermon

Fr Mark’s talk at the 9:30 am Music Group Eucharist at Steyning will be recorded live and uploaded to the Sermons page after the service.

Bible readings

The shorter Contemporary English Version readings used at the 9:30 Music Group Eucharist can be read here.
See this week’s notices for the Common Worship lectionary readings for this Sunday morning.

Should you be unable to get to church, the Church of England continues to provide a videoed, pre-recorded service, available every weekend, and which can be followed here. Services continue to be streamed live from our Cathedral, and can be found here

Sunday Evenings

We normally have an evening service at 6pm on Sundays.

  • On the first Sunday of the month this is Reflections, built around a period of quiet contemplation.
  • We have Choral Evensong on the third Sunday of the month (except in August, when the choir is on holiday, and December, when we have Christmas choral evening services).
  • On the fourth Sunday of the month at 6pm there will be a Taizé service held in the chancel.
  • Otherwise there is usually a quiet evening service in our Cuthman Chapel in traditional language.

These times and dates may change according to season or special events, please refer to our calendar or the current notice sheet.

Weekday Services

Our weekly 11:30am WEDNESDAY EUCHARIST takes place in the chancel. On the fourth Wednesday of the month this usually includes prayers for healing.
MORNING PRAYER is usually said in the Cuthman Chapel each weekday at 8:30am from Monday to Thursday (resuming on Thursday, 2 January).

You can follow the daily office of the Church of England online here. [Choose ‘Morning Prayer (Contemporary)’ if you wish to follow along with a typical recording below.]
You can also find links there to download a free Church of England Daily Prayer app for your smartphone or tablet.
