Our new signboard
28 February – At last: our new signboard has been erected by the lych gate, replacing an old wooden sign that was outdated and falling apart.
Many thanks to our Treasurer, John Edwards, for his persistence in trying – with little success – to get the manufacturers to match the specification required by the planners and the Diocese. They did offer a price reduction, which meant we could pay Tom Cracknell and his furniture restorer colleague to add a painted hardwood frame and erect the new sign.

Remembering Ukraine one year on
On Sunday 26 February at noon we joined with Churches together in Steyning outside the Roman Catholic church of Christ the King in Steyning in a vigil to mark the first anniversary of the start of the war in Ukraine. We prayed for those directly affected by the conflict, for those in positions of leadership, and for the global impact and for peace. We remembered in particular the Ukrainian familes who have been welcomed into, and enhanced, our community and for their generous hosts.

Repair to North Aisle roof
We are pleased to report that Coast to Coast Roofing, a Steyning based company, has begun repairs to the roof at the East end of the North Aisle, in order to fix the leak behind the organ console that occurred during heavy weather. The clay tiles have been lifted and a new waterproof membrane is being added, with improved drainage channels. One of the sarking boards (boards attached to the rafters of a pitched roof) which had been damaged by the water ingress is being replaced. Note the protection for the gravestones.

Return of Fr Stephen
On Sunday 29 January we were very pleased to welcome back our former curate, Fr Stephen Mills, seen here with David, talking to Canon Nigel and Jill Hartley, before they move to Stephen’s new parish at St Mary, Finedon, in the Peterborough diocese. Stephen brought light and love to us at the Candlemas service, as he did during all of his time at Steyning.
