Silver Eco Church Award
SILVER ECO CHURCH AWARD
Steyning Parish Church is honoured to have been awarded Silver accreditation through the A Rocha Eco Church scheme. The Eco Church vision is to create a vast network of churches across England and Wales as local centres of creation care in the community – shining beacons of hope for a brighter environmental future.
At the heart of Eco Church is a survey about how the church is caring for God’s earth in different areas of their life and work. The answers earn points towards an Eco Church Award – the more your church does, the more points are awarded. So we are particularly pleased to have qualified for the Silver award from the outset, which we feel is a great achievement bearing in mind that there is really little more that can be done under current regulations to our Grade 1 listed church and Grade 2 (part) hall.
The survey covers these areas of church life:
- Worship and Teaching
- Management of Church Buildings
- Management of Church Land
- Community and Global Engagement
- Lifestyle
We can do more, but to obtain a Gold award we will need all members of the church to engage with the Eco Church ethos and become greener – which should not be too difficult in an environmentally-aware community like Steyning. Some of our members have already achieved awards for their own homes and lifestyles under the separate Creation Care initiative. Why not join them?
